                                                                 Tomy DeClerque

A member of the new generation of Slovenian deejays, Tomy DeClerque grew up in an environment full of promising development in the sphere of electronic dance music. In front of his eyes the local scene has been turning into a globally acknowledged style of techno music in the hands of artists such as Umek and Valentino Kanzyani. A natural choice for a guy with talent and ambition was to jump the train – and Tomy DeClerque has road it ever since.
Performing as a deejay since he turned seventeen Tomy DeClerque soon realised that making his own production was essential if he wanted his carrier to really take off. He hooked up with his friend Zox to form the Tomy or Zox duo, and their hard work paid off as their My Desire single received some favourable feedback in Spain, Russia and Mexico. However, it was the Music Makes Me Happy hit single that caught the attention of top artists being remixed by the likes of Mainframe and ATCF, and released on several prestigious compilations, such as Ministry Of Sound, DJ Awards at Pacha Ibiza and Blanco Y Negro Mix. ‘The greatest satisfaction, though, – Tomy says – was when we got set as Essential new tune of the week on Pete Tong’s celebrated Essential selection radio show.’
After parting ways with Zox, Tomy felt that it was time to take a break from a demanding life of producer and performer, before he went on to start his solo career. Searching for genuine underground sound that could revive the authentic feeling of electronic dance music he experienced in his youth Tomy turned to Valentino Kanzyani’s Jesus Loved You label releasing a much praised I Don’t Know. Driven by his passion for teamwork, a lot of his studio work is done in collaboration with his friend F. Sonik. The duo’s first major success was winning VONYC remix competition with a remix of Valentino Kanzyani’s Nueva York.
As a young player, Tomy DeClerque has accomplished a lot. But he is determined to accomplish even more. ‘You’ll hear a lot about me in the future,’ he promises.

Valentino Kanzyani @ The Wave Fm :: Jesus Loved You Special Month :: 13.06.2009

For this saturday an interesting instrospective about the owner and ceo of Jesus Loved You, that inspired in the dancefloor music and fresh sounds, discover this face on the music creating his own label and for friends, just Techno, House, Electronica, or maximal new wave.
Friend of dj Uros Umek and ex-hardtechno tribal dj, reinvent all the time Valentino's Kanzyani performer, publisher and music compositor sell a continual history about the years and the countries that he was present.
With a lot of carrier, we will see and feel the freshment touch of delicious music, that about he really know how to do it !

                                                           Valentino Kanzyani

The undisputed king of Slovenian underground electronica. If you're not a newby in the never ending game of beatmatching and scratching, you probably know Valentino doesn't really understand the meaning of words limit, border and purism. He is one of the founding fathers of Slovenian techno, but that has never really stopped him to throw one of his gourmet house or even d&b sets. Or anything in between that he found fresh at the time. After a decade of creative symbiotic with his fellow countrymen Umek, with whom he founded and managed labels Recycled Loops and Earesistible Musick, the two discovered they’ve grown apart, shook hands and concentrated on new music ventures each on their own. After a series of big releases on labels such as Primevil, Yoshitoshi (Flying), Intec (House Soul EP), Wet Musik, Tronic (Burros Eslovenos) and Primate Kanzyani decided it is time to take a break. He spent the summer in Ibiza where he, as many other artists before him, found his new muse. He gathered flock of fresh artists under the Jesus Loved You ensign and now leads them back to the essence of clubbing debauchery. In this honorable cause he’s heavily supported by artists such as Paul Van Dyk, Sven Väth, Carl Cox, Sharam and essential selector Pete Tong, who, after all this years in business and hundred thousands of flown miles still consider Kanzyani one of the most passionate and fresh sounding electronic artists on the Globe.
Around the years he was traveling for a lot of countries and spreading the electronic culture he was own "Jesus Loved You Records" place for great musicians that only think into the sublime beats as minimal, Techno, maximal or just Electronica.

Valentino Kanzyani & Marko Nastic @ Buenos Aires

Welcome to the world of Marko Nastic, the leading South Eastern European electronic DJ. Raised in war-torn Belgrade, Marko grew into a catalyst for the 90s generation of young that grew in isolation and despair but never surrender. In a troubled Serbia of the 90s, Marko and his buddies built one of the most vibrant club scenes in Europe, the one that inspired writers of Mixmag, The Face, DJ and NME to write accolades many moons ago. They resisted dark forces of political madness with electronic music and celebration of life.
DJing and music were always a part of Marko Nastic’s background: even in his pre-teen years he was fascinated with synthesizers, drum machines and other sound-making gadgets. When techno started filtering through to Serbia in the early 90s, Marko entered the scene.
Still only 14, Marko had just landed a job at Belgrade’s dance music shop Happy People, where his interest in dance music was allowed to flourish. A year later, he was behind the decks at the leading Belgrade underground club Industria.
A word on a teenage techno prodigy started spreading around town. Very soon, the new energy channeled into a young & aspiring DJs team called Teenage Techno Punks – all of them under 18 but performing like they are born on the 1210s. Nastic was the leader of the pack; soon to became the hottest talent of South Eastern Europe electronic scene. The queues the enter clubs in the region on the nights they performed were longer than ever. The word was now spreading beyond the boundaries of Serbia.
Still, to stay on the tracks in a troubled and conflict-ridden country demanded a bit more talent and power than straight down forward mixing skills and ear for a good tune. Just as techno music was becoming popular in Serbia, the Balkan conflict escalated. Marko admits that he was too young to realize the gravity of the situation, but like every area of life it also impacted on his world. “Things were tense, but a lot of it probably went over my head,” he admits. “it also meant that buying records was very difficult and the choice was poor”.
However, the circumstances shaped and strengthened Marco just like other kids there. The free parties they threw in such a conditions are still a sort of urban legend in Belgrade, like 78 afternoon gigs they had during the 1999 NATO air raids of Serbia a sort of a ”techno against the cruise missiles” scenario. Every afternoon, 5PM sharp, the kids queued to enter Industria club, to celebrate life and resist war. Three hours later the total blackout and sounds of air ride alarms meant the parties were to stop and kids were either to stay in the club-turned-shelter or to go home.
Soon, the war was over. One by one, the clubbing scenes in neighboring countries became aware of Nastic’s unparalleled DJing skills and his distinctive three-deck style. Marko matured into a DJ whose trademark is a lack of genre boundaries. Do not attempt to label him as techno or house or minimal: he’s all of that, and more.
Marko was the member of the original Recycled Loops crew. After the label stopped, Marko joined Valentino’s Jesus Loved You. Besides that he established three labels himself. It all begun with the well known label Recon Warriors, which put Marko on the charts, but in time he evolved his style and that’s how Recon Light and Traffica where born.
Marko is very busy with DJing around the globe and has loads of projects running. For example Space Explorers with Marko Milosaljevic, Tango and Cash with Kobaya and Faut pas de Conner with Valentino Kanzyani and don’t forget the projects with Dejan Milicevic, Tommy de Clerqe, Aneuria, Jan Nemecek, Djordje Miljenovic and Danilo Tomic.
Marko did his first non-European tour in 2002, which started in Brazil. Now he regularly plays gigs all over the world. Today his favorite clubs and festivals include Exit (he performed on all thus far – 10 years in a row, like no other artist there), Awakenings, Monegros, Bali, Colloseum, Florida 135 and Apollo - where Marko has a quarterly residence.
One of his most memorable performances was the one with symphony orchestra in occasion of the 200th birth anniversary of Nikola Tesla, famous electric inventor.
Since 2006 he is the author and the host of the radio show “Music For Body And Soul” on the leading Serbian radio station B92.
His authorial album is due to be released.

Exclusive Interview to Thomas McCluskey aka E383 on The Wave Fm

Thomas, when you decided to start into the techno world.. what was the influences?.. maybe some Kraftwerk.. maybe Depeche.. or disco music or nothing of before?.
My first real interest in music was the 'Art of Noise'... I had never heard anything quite like it before... and I fell on love with the idea of making music with technology. Then in the early 90's I started listening to breakbeat hardcore music... like early Prodigy, Altern 8 and Acen... and began to produce my own tracks... just for my friends. But it was Dave Clarke who introduced me to Techno music through Radio 1 and I was hooked... instantly!.

Where do you find inspiration to create your own sounds..
I find inspiration in the strangest places... for instance... I used to work as printer and I was fascinated with the rythms of the old printing presses I used... my self titled track 'E383' was born from these rythms!. Rythm fascinates me... it's like an obsession almost... I see, hear and feel rythm everywhere... in nature, in life... everything has rythm... but then... I am a drummer, so this might explain my compulsion. I constantly have beats playing in my head... maybe it's a form of brain damage!??... lol :P

It's hard to find good records now... can you relate your actual mission creating different sounds for the Space Cadet set?
The 'Space Cadet' set was not intended to be honest... at least not consciously... it only came into being because I wanted to try a mix for the very first time and realised I had enough of my own tracks to do it. It just happened one night and I realised just how perfectly my tracks went together... maybe subconsciously this is why I created all these tracks... just to make this mix!. I am very proud of it :)

We know about the Radio show of Dave Clarke can you relate to us your experience when you heard him play your track?
Dave Clarke is and always will be my favourite Techno DJ and to have him play my track was a dream come true for me!. To be honest... having Dave Clarke and John Peel (legendary radio 1 DJ) play my music were the only goals I had set for myself concerning my music. Sadly John Peel passed away before I had the chance to have him hear my work (RIP Mr Peel). Everything else now is just a bonus!.

What do you think about the future of Techno... is it real the idm and minimal wave or just the hard turn it up on more strong trippings?
I feel that Techno is constantly evolving... just like any music, people pick up on certain elements of the kind of Techno they like and they create something new with it... a never ending cycle. I hear a lot of other artists and DJ's complaining about minimal... personally, I see nothing wrong with the way things are going... if you don't like minimal or IDM... then don't listen to it!. But what I don't like... is that a lot of minimal artists seem to sound the same... they use the same rythms and the same sounds... it almost feels like it's one guy producing a lot of these tracks under different names!. But there is some great minimal stuff out there... it's just hard to find as there is so much of it right now. Once the current minimal trend dies down, we'll see more quality minimal shining through... as the guys who were in it for money move on to the next trend to make another quick buck.

Your favorite artists for the moment?...
This is I question I can never answer!. To put it simply... I love Techno!.

What you can say about The Wave fm and thank you Thomas very much for spread into the techno world. We hope to find another one as Space Cadet soon!

I'm very happy to have had my set played on your show. I love the passion and enthusiasm you guys have for Techno... it really makes the show something special! ;) a real treat for all us Techno lovers out there. I'll be sure to give you guys a copy of my next set... and I will certainly be listening to your show from now on. Long live The Wave FM! :)
